We attract whatever we focus on. Good, bad, ugly, resourceful, unresourceful, positive negative, whatever we label it. Thoughts are seen as having a vibrational quality and the potential to affect the physical and metaphysical aspects of one's life. This concept often connects to the idea that our thoughts and intentions can shape our reality. When we focus our thoughts on a particular goal, desire, or outcome, the energy of our intention can be seen as aligning with the energy of the greater whole, potentially leading to the manifestation of our desires.
Every thought-vibration and thought-form inevitably reacts upon the thinker. Every thought or emotion produces a permanent effect by strengthening or weakening a tendency to act in a particular manner. The emotion we permit within ourselves needs a careful execution. But we rarely attempt to check our thoughts or emotions. It is merely natural for us.
Instead of allowing the mind to indulge in its vagaries, we must endeavor to assert control over it. How can we achieve this development? It is important to recognize that mind is not the man. It is rather an instrument that man must learn to use. Mind needs training. Training is required for two things – one is to create positive energy and the other is to not allow this energy to go waste.
Creation of positive energy needs efficient use of the mind. It must not be left idle. If the mind is left idle, each passing thought-form can drift upon it and impress it. More likely, an unoccupied mind takes up evil impressions than good ones. The mind should be taught to do thoroughly what it is required to do. The power of concentration should be acquired. This is no light task. Mind has an active tendency to wander. But just as the physical body gains strength through regular exercise, so does the mind. The endeavor to be constantly learning something, to let no day pass without some definite exercise of the mind is the most salutary exercise.
Once the positive energy is created our next step is to learn to harness our energy. It should not be wasted. But we put in our best efforts to waste our energies. One such effort is to engage in unnecessary argument. It appears impossible to hold any opinion without becoming prey to an over mastering desire to force our opinion on everyone else. This opinion could be about anything – religious, political or relating to some ordinary matter of life. We seem incapable of grasping the rudimentary fact that what the other person chooses to believe is none of our business. We are not commissioned by the authorities in charge of the world to secure uniformity and thought in practice. What is required to understand is that there is room for diversity in any conceivable subject. The other person may have reason and truth in his belief.
Another common way of wasting the good energy is in worry. We tend to forget that a law of absolute justice governs the world. Whatever comes our way is meant to help align our will to the will of the divine. Our life becomes easy once we no longer fear for our loved ones and ourselves. We are then required to focus and do our duties in the best way we can. We feel confident within that if we fulfill our duties, all will be well for us.
Inevitably and without any effort of ours, any thought which arises within our minds influences the minds of others around us. Consider then the responsibility if a thought is impure or evil. We may spread moral contagion. Happily, this is true of good thought as well. One, who realizes this, may work to be a veritable sun. The power of thought is truly a magnificent power and within the reach of every human being. Possessing this tremendous power, we must be careful how we exercise it. We must remember to positively think of a person as we wish him/her to be.
The image that we make of him/her will naturally act powerfully upon him/her. The knowledge of the use of the thought-currents makes it possible for us to give assistance in times of sorrow or suffering. It gives inner strength and courage to face the adverse situation. The knowledge also makes us act as crucial instruments in improving others. Let us fix our thoughts upon the good qualities of our friends and ourselves. In thinking of any good quality, we tend to strengthen its undulations and therefore to intensify it.
Feeling of gratitude towards what we have assists in creation and sustenance of our mental peace. As it is rightly said – Gratitude is the best attitude. A word of caution here is to not consider gratitude as an excuse for inaction. Performing one’s duties and remaining in action is the essence of every living organism. But being grateful makes things simpler for all. We ourselves, as living souls, can go on generating this force indefinitely. We have an infinite store of strength. If we preserve it, we must eventually succeed.
